Hi! My name is Lisa Oates and I’m a Full Stack Marketing & Design Pro based in Bridgewater, Virginia, USA
02
Outside work you will often find me drinking freshly roasted coffee, baking pies, spending time with my family and friends, or watching volleyball. I'm also a big fan of NASCAR! (VIEW)
03
But on a typical workday, I am usually whiteboarding creative strategies for my clients, crafting compelling content, building websites and brand designs, dreaming about the future, designing social graphics, and learning about the latest tech in marketing and design.
04
My day usually starts with coffee and checking email
05
Most of the time I am working on top priority tasks for my clients
06
What are your first memories of the Internet?
Chatting with friends on AIM, playing online solitaire, and learning how to write HTML with my sister in our home office, circa 1995.
07
What is the best part about the process of building websites for you?
I love the process of taking a client’s goals and transforming them into something tangible—bringing their vision to life through thoughtful strategy and creative design. For me, it’s all about crafting an experience that feels effortless for the user while beautifully reflecting the client’s brand personality. The best moment is when everything finally comes together—the layouts, the copy, the visuals—and I get to share the finished site for the first time. Seeing my clients light up, realizing this is their brand come to life, never gets old. It’s the most rewarding part of what I do.
08
What is your favorite stretch or pastime in between coding?
I like to prepare a fresh pot of coffee or french press, take a quick lap around the house, and then dive back in. It helps my brain take a break and gives me a little extra energy to get back into the coding flow.
09
How would you describe your Standout Style in 2-3 words? Playful. Bold. Futuristic.
10
Which Standout workshops do you find yourself incorporating most often on your website projects?
I've used vertical tabs and custom testimonial sliders most often, but I find value in all of them. I love learning better ways to craft beautiful websites that are functional for the client.

What makes your work standout?
What makes my web design work stand out is the strategy behind the visuals. I don’t just build pretty websites. I design intentional online experiences that connect the dots between branding, messaging, and functionality. Every design choice serves a purpose, helping small businesses attract the right audience and guide them toward meaningful action. My clients often say their new website finally feels like them—professional, cohesive, and built to grow with their business. My superpower is blending creative direction with real-world marketing insight, ensuring your site not only looks beautiful but actually works hard for you behind the scenes. They are built for long-term value and not based on the trends of today. The result is a site that feels human, tells your story authentically, and positions your business for real growth.
12
What are the biggest takeaways from the Standout programs?
I've been building websites for a long time... decades, in fact. I have been learning that there are more efficient processes I can take to craft websites that load quickly, are accessible, and function beautifully. The use of code to create interactivity is my favorite part.
13
What is your dream website project?
My dream website project is building a resource library with categories and filters for a small business so they can publish their thought leadership in creative ways. Then, helping them create that content would be icing on the cake. I'd love to help a creative team produce a documentary or podcast, and build a website to promote it.
